Onion 3 v3

This is original, untampered version of book page 4. (328 KB)

 SOME WISDOM
 THE PRIMES ARE SACRED
 THE TOTIENT FUNCTION IS SACRED
 ALL THINGS SHOULD BE ENCRYPTED

Three possible ways to look at the matrix: http://pastebin.com/4vQbpWNC

All three Matrixes are inversable. The inversion has been added at the bottom of the pastebin.

The 5x5 Matrix might be used as an encoding/decoding Matrix for the Hill Cipher. The onion3.1 and 3.2 Text is divisable by 5. So is the outguess image which people think of the next onion adress.

You can read more about that here:

http://www.4er.org/LinearAlgebra/CASES/3.%20ea1code.pdf

http://vanets.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/dokuwiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=teaching:hint.pdf

I used this Gematria since it would not work with prime numbers and we need a number range of 29 possibilities (because we have 29 runes). https://infotomb.com/0vzai

This is how the beginning of the text would look if you want to use it with the matrix key/my gematria:

    1 0 6 7 28 16
   28 5 13 14 26 5
   21 4 28 16 19 9
   15 12 28 5 28 25
   12 1 0 20 12 12

The results of all 6 Matrices were not showing yet something like english text.

Maybe someone has an idea how to arrange the matrix in some other way?

PROGRESS 12-Jan-2014 cca 0:00 GMT

at end of day 11.1.2014 GMT, page contained html comment

server-status page was redirected at index.html

First we had…

http://gjvc.com/3301/fv7lyucmeozzd5j4.onion-20140111-2218-GMT.txt

Then came this…

https://anonfiles.com/file/8cf6c9e30e0fcbe3a010e431e688c2ce

57 added to new line on bottom, besides tha tstring was identical.

Onion 3 went offline AFTER second output string with 57 in last line.

Onion 3 (ver 4?) 2 different strings and extracted images with runes

At 2014-01-11 22:07:12 UTC, Onion3 briefly (for 14 minutes) published a long (~4.2 MB) string which contained a hexdump. Two jpg images could be extracted from that string:

  • onion3.image00.jpg: Beginning at position 0 in normal byte order, size: 871.8 KB. The image shows a page of runetext. OutGuess finds a hidden message which is a signed hexdump of another jpg (onion3.image00.outguess.jpg). The signature is valid.
  • onion3.rev.image.jpg: After reversing the byte-order of the hexdump another image (1.2 MB) can be found. OutGuess finds no readable message, but it can produce some output in certain cases even if no message was hidden. Maybe this seemingly random data becomes important later on.

All three images (the two from the onion hexdump and the one found via outguess) contain some runetext which has been transcribed at http://pastebin.com/aeEak0XB

Finally, the pages were translated and decrypted. All information about this can be found here.

After 22:22 page was updated again with same string and extra line 57.

  • source code contained two interesting things, the <!---3301---> html comment,
  • second version had number 57 in last line.
  • strings were identical appart for 57 line (there are some other pastas but no proof)

.onion 3 ver 2 displayed long string without 57 from 2014-01-11 22:07:12 UTC until 2014-01-11 22:22:01 UTC

[00:07] <Entropy> Got 2116096 bytes, 4232192 chars, 16928768 bits, 8538902 zeroes (50.44%), 8389866 ones (49.56%), min: 00, max: ff, avg: 126.3962 (7e), stdev: 76.3730 (4c), entropy: 7.9050 bits/byte, modified: 2014-01-11 22:07:12 UTC (20 hours, 58 minutes, 11.000 seconds)
[00:22] <Entropy> NEW BYTE: 57, 2116097 bytes, 4232194 chars, 16928776 bits, 8538905 zeroes (50.44%), 8389871 ones (49.56%), min: 00, max: ff, avg: 126.3962 (7e), stdev: 76.3730 (4c), entropy: 7.9050 bits/byte, modified: 2014-01-11 22:22:01 UTC (14 minutes, 49.000 seconds)

After 2014-01-11 22:22:01 onion 3 was displaying second version of html with 57 on the end but othevise hex string was same.

<Entropy> NEW BYTE: 57

HTML source we have two versions of source, one from 22:07 until 22:22 one without 57:

printscreen of long string on onion 3, html looks to be from 256 string

Backups:

57 What could be resons for addition of 57 on .onion 3 ver 4?

<nick-o> maybe they only appended 57 to make the total number of bytes a prime number ;) 2116097 is actually a prime number
<nick-o> not that that would actually change anything lol

Pgp

This is joke, this is not how to properly authenticate PGP

PGP appears to be legit:  This is how every pgp message begins, could lead people down the wrong road, to properly authenticate check the signature - godbert

Clean version of article about recent 3 pics on onion 3

[08:48] <iIIustrious> ok Lurker69 here's what I've got
[08:48] <iIIustrious> as you said, one image forward, one in reverse
[08:48] <iIIustrious> first image in outguess has pgp signed hex, which has another jpg, the small one
[08:49] <iIIustrious> the reverse of the large image has outguess, but it comes out a (seemingly) useless binary
[08:49] <iIIustrious> will turn to hex for comparison sake
[08:49] <iIIustrious> the small image has no outguess and is not reversable
[08:49] <Lurker69> ok thx
[08:50] <iIIustrious> do you need uploads of the images for the wiki or do you have them?
[08:50] <Lurker69> http://mdzhb.dmtr.ru/onion3/  i think this are the links

OutguessfromLiberPrimusPage6

Outguessed jpg from Liber Primus page 5

Solution of page 4 and page 5 from Liber Primus book.

It was discovered the encryption used in the 4th and 5th page of the book was a Vigenère cipher with the keyword "DIVINITY" (how? ), obviously represented by runes. "DIUINITY" results from using 6, 19, 28, 19, 20, 19, 13, 3 shifts in the reversed Gematria Primus [image]  from top to bottom (there's no "V" in the Gematria Primus so it is an assumption "U" == "V").  -See this picture if you still have trouble understanding this-

After wasting two hours of my life trying to recreate the results posted here using the standar Vigenere table provided by SepheusIX, I analyzed what was actually happening.  So it appears they used an inverted (or reversed) Vigenere table, so I made one in a spreadsheet.  Using this table, all the letters coincide with the encrypted pages (5th and 6th), including the onion address, but still no explanation why the password was "DIVINITY" or why the character "F" is ignored and reset the key for decryption.

(--insert this as picture here please.  If someone can make a prettier picture, do it for the press and maybe include the runes)

If anyone is interested here is the spreadsheet. I made it in gnumeric but exported it as xls.

Welcome:

Welcome, pilgrim of the great journey toward

the end of all things. It is not an easy trip,

but for those who find their way here it is a necessary one.

Along the way you will find an end of all struggle and suffering,

your innocence, your illusions, your certainty and your reality.

Ultimately you will discover an end of self.

It is through this pilgrimage that we shape ourselves and our realities.

Journey deep within and you will arrive outside.

Like the instar, it is only through going within that we may emerge:

Wisdom: You are a being unto yourself.

You are a law unto yourself.

Each intelligence is holy.

For all that lives is holy.

[07:19] <mlehmk> http://pastebin.com/13X9zwHP
[08:43] <Lurker69> thx
[08:44] <Lurker69> i need this to make PS images with text written oner runes
[08:44] <Lurker69> also tell me one thing
[08:44] <mlehmk> ahh, okay
[08:45] <Lurker69> i see runes have sign for !
[08:45] <Lurker69> do they also have or (.)
[08:45] <Lurker69> and /new line ?
[08:45] <Lurker69> or not
[08:45] <mlehmk> Well, we have the dots and it's a cicada convention
[08:45] <mlehmk> one dot for space, two dot for comma, four dot for full stop
[08:46] <mlehmk> eleven dot for special markings, like heading and end-of-paragraph
[08:46] <Lurker69> and that big group of dots is !
[08:46] <Lurker69> or maybe : in some case, but i guess !
[08:46] <mlehmk> nope
[08:46] <Lurker69> no?
[08:46] <Lurker69> i mean dots behind warning and welcome
[08:46] <mlehmk> just like the wikipedia headings and paragraph symbol
[08:46] <Lurker69> and ones before and aafer footer
[08:47] <mlehmk> well, I don't know really. it's how they did it so far
[08:47] <Lurker69> http://prntscr.com/2ixky6 this? isnt that !
[08:48] <mlehmk> that's the heading/paragraph mark
[08:48] <Lurker69> ok, new line then or new paragraph
[08:48] <Lurker69> thx
[08:48] <Lurker69> now i can properly format runes>latin in wikia
[08:48] <mlehmk> it also replaces the dot when the end of paragraph
[09:55] <mlehmk> another typo in my translation
[09:56] <mlehmk> it's "we may emerge" not "the way emerge"
[09:56] <Lurker69> ok another think
[09:56] <Lurker69> i dont agree with you tat big bunch of dots is new paragraph
[09:56] <Lurker69> necessarily
[09:56] <mlehmk> I agree it has multiple meaning
[09:56] <Lurker69> i makes no sense to use it infront and on adn of footer
[09:57] <mlehmk> yeah, as much as it doesn't make sense to put a comma at the beginning of a line
[09:57] <Lurker69> maybe it is some designer thing like * or •
[09:57] <mlehmk> or full stop
[09:57] <Lurker69> ornamental mostly
[09:57] <Lurker69> because footer is armored wit hit
[09:57] <Lurker69> and people ofter use ~ footer ~
[09:57] <mlehmk> although ornamental it makes sense to treat it like < h >...< /h > or < pre >
[09:57] <Lurker69> or similar ascii art
[09:59] <Lurker69> yeah should be < h > or < span > or anything , but i think it is more like old books stuff than some new computer like convention
[09:59] <mlehmk> yes and yes and still no
[09:59] <Lurker69> anyway i will interpret it in PS as some ornalmetal ign or as ! or as < / p >
[09:59] <mlehmk> it's how to interpret it
[09:59] <Lurker69> yeah it serves as divider

Shift from L to F

Rune F (also latin letter F) was not encrypted with the Vigenère. We assume the reason for that was to make the cipher harder to break. Although the first F in the text is in line 3, so this didn't make the cipher much harder to break at all (if you use "pen and paper" technique.)

Why is rune F transcribed as L and not as F

<masso> Lurker69: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=Gz49wnjy

Total F's = 25

Shifted F's = 14

Non-Shifted f's = 11

The underlined upper case letters were F's in the original text and got shifted.

The underlined lowercase f's were also F's in the original text and got skipped.

  • It turns out the shifted F's thing was my confusion on my part, they were other letters in plaintext randomly shuffled to F in encrypted runes.

So the only relevance here could be the position of the unencrypted F's or their  possible encryption ("All things should be encrypted") to use as key for something.

Nice concise explanation of cicadas runes vigenere shift

Somebody who tried to decode it and knows how it works please describe cipher in few sentences. Dont forget to mention why F (as far i understand it was to make vigenere cipher harder to detect) was not encrypted and that reseting of key people were talking about.

Here are three basic links:

Short explanation

<soulseekah> Lurker69: please add it to wikia https://infotomb.com/ng4yp.txt
<mlehmk> the program I used: http://imgur.com/nxQMtGW
<soulseekah> Lurker69: it's a simple shift down the gematria
<soulseekah> with wrapping
<Lurker69> ok i can get that then
<soulseekah> so key of 1 turns f into u
<soulseekah> just slide down the gematria
<soulseekah> and wrap around when needed
<soulseekah> and this is my transcription
<soulseekah> https://infotomb.com/lz9d2.txt
<soulseekah> https://infotomb.com/27ol3.txt
<soulseekah> Have it all
<soulseekah> luv you all guys
<mlehmk> Vigenere in rune-space
<Lurker69> ok standard vigenere, does key mean anytuing
<mlehmk> key is 6, 19, 28, 19, 20, 19, 13, 3
[04:35] <mlehmk> the Vigenere key is divinty
[04:35] <Lurker69> cool, in runes to latin ?
<Lurker69> was that little jpg any help?
<mlehmk> that little jpg is probably the new onion address
<Lurker69> but in difernt cipher ?
<mlehmk> the Vigenere key is divinty
<Lurker69> cool, in runes to latin ?
<mlehmk> Yeah, I used the runes table to get that key

More excerpts detailing the vigenere key used
Before you can translate to English you need to shift by a given key.
[04:22] <austintrigue> dead had mentioned earlier that perhaps the misspellings were intentional to make brute forcing harder
<dead> the typos look like strategic omissions to make bruteforcing/cryptoanalysis harder
[05:13] <mlehmk> when I skip some F runes the decryption works flawlessly
[05:14] <mlehmk> https://www.dropbox.com/s/siup96qrey7liog/runes-decryption.txt
[05:14] <mlehmk> whenever a rune F is to be skipped, I replaced them with the latin F
[05:29] <j4m3s> Lurker69, all runic f's are latin f's
<kml> numinit: you need to reset the key in some places
<numinit> Reset the key on F?
<numinit> Oh
<kml> @numinit: on first double F
<numinit> you restart on the FIRST f, right?
<panax> tothe e m e r g e n c e
<numinit> and then include the next F in the key?
<kml> no, the 2bd
<kml> 2nd
"An instruction: Command your own self"
<j4m3s> well if you're to assume the rune f causes a key shift, then there's 13 symbols (inc the numbers) between the two rune f's
<j4m3s> if you treat the rune f's as latin f's the decryption works flawlessly, apparently
[03:47] <_BoB_> you need to fix most of the f's, i.e. don't decode the f's leave them alone
[10:56] <mdzhb> ddab: based on my post-mortem analysis, looks like the errors introduced in the encryption thwarted naive lengths to determine the keylength
[10:57] <mdzhb> ie. some F's seem to be skipped during encryption, as well as one other char (Y of you i think)
[10:58] <mdzhb> so, kasiski examination would fail
[10:58] <ddab> yeah mdzhb, i did the same analyses, but on the incorrect translation, and therefore my analayses showed that there was no correct keysize
[10:58] --> yar_ (58c8737a@gateway/web/freenode/ip.88.200.115.122) has joined #cicadasolvers
[10:58] <mdzhb> well, the translation (transcription?) was alright
[10:58] <ddab> there are like 20 translations
[10:58] --> guest352 (~username@ott101.internetdsl.tpnet.pl) has joined #cicadasolvers
[10:58] <mlehmk> it was only F that have been skipped during encryption
[10:58] <ddab> most of them contain errors
[10:59] <mdzhb> i've used the same as Eve's, which we both checked multiple times
[10:59] <-- patience (52c05fb8@gateway/web/freenode/ip.82.192.95.184) has quit (Quit: Page closed)
[10:59] <mdzhb> and someone else did too
[10:59] <mlehmk> and only plaintext F were skipped, not cryptext F
[10:59] <mdzhb> mlehmk: I also had to skip a char on p2 though :\
[10:59] <mlehmk> I used my own
[11:01] --> AndChat|72624 (~Keeper@46.35.191.151) has joined #cicadasolvers
[11:02] <ddab> how do you find out that f needed to be skipped lol? still wrong keysize?

<Cyrex> you got that right?  looks like Mleh found the onion site at 0530 gmt

It was found at:  GMT 5:37AM

For the record, it uses the same cipher method as the two decoded pages, however with a new key, 'welcome pilgrim to the'.  This equates to vignere offsets of:

[ 22, 11, 9, 24, 26, 10, 11, 16, 19, 9, 23, 25, 19, 10, 13, 26, 27, 11 ]

best proof mirror images we got: http://prntscr.com/2ixdzx  and http://prntscr.com/2ixdzl

(please note the port number 5243 coincides with previous ports being used. Current pattern would suggest Port 5244 will be on the next located Tor/Web site)

ONION4 SOLUTION

pls add solutions and open leads of onion4 below this title

NO GARBAGE PLS, KEEP IT CLEAN

Do you want to help keeping wikia up to date?

BUMMER:

Pls2Read

Since not many people know value of popper documenting and take every lead they find and  run with it like scared rabbits without properly documenting anything, I cant edit wiki efficiently. I cant trust dubious pastas, nonoriginal jpgs, and  garbage strings people are posting everywhere. And usually nobody PMs or pings me when new onion is found. And since onions dont last long. If I dont see it I cant be sure it was updated if no legit PGP is provided. And if I post things from rumors, I am vulnerable to trolls.

Wikia will not be updated anymore by me, until we dont have proper proves behind every pasta, jpg  or .onion address.

Proper proofs are:

  • Timestamps in GMT
  • Screenshots like this, no other garbage pls, it has to have timestamp and url address visible
  • PGP verifications
  • No imgur links are acceptable, use InfoTomb.com , tinypic, or page that 100% doesnt chnage single bit of jpg
  • Equip all your pastas with timestamp and source where it came from
  • If you post logs from chats, add name of channel, date and timezone when time is impoertant
  • Post all important in IRC channel #CicadaWiki. You can also PM me (/query lurker69) or post them directly in wikia. I dont have time to read IRC chat or back logs. Also I miss most of the pings (mentioning my name in chat), so PMs only way to make sure I will eventually see you post, but it might take hours before I notice it.

Post every important thing in #CicadaWiki, things from other chats are often missed and forever lost in vastness of space

People willing to help at documenting please join #CicadaWiki, we need more people who understand point of this game, and are motivated to help at documenting progress, which sadly means you have to sacrifice the thrill we get from solving actual puzzles.

P.S.; I dont blame anyone, I know the feeling you get, when when you crack the nut, find new onion and your shaking hands type the url in. I know it is not easy to have enough self control to document progress during those moments. No hard feeling guys, you are all great!

DramaQueen Lurker69 :-P

We didnt find any outguess message in 5x5 magic square jpg. Neither die we find any lead from the 2 growing strings.

But .onion 3 was updated, it appears as though we didnt casue that, but it was updated by Cicada. So far, nobody knows how we deserved this.

[02:33] <Eve4> This is the version after the update, the first version had two bytes less.

[02:33] <absence_> i believe this is the source of onion after the big update, right Eve4 ?
[02:33] <Eve4> This is the onion3-longString that contains the last images.

[02:34] <Eve4> First it ended in 0x66 0x0A, after a few minutes it changed and 0x35 0x37 has been added to the end.

[02:34] <Lurker69>we have three NEW images or two images?

[02:35] <parardhes> the distance after '3' in the third img is the same as after '5' or before '3' - it seems to be because of the numbers
[02:35] <per346> Lurker69: one, then outguessed, third from outguess of second i think

[02:36] <Eve4> Two images, one from the beginning and one from the end reversed, one byte 0xFF out of bounds inbetween and the small image with the supposed next onion address is in an outguess in the forward image.

[02:37] <Eve4> Not 100% sure about the outguess, may be in the reversed image, but 99.8% sure.

[05:29] <Nikz> that's odd
[05:29] <Nikz> well I did see the onion change into hexdump, but I never retrieved the dumps
[05:29] <Nikz> then I was linked to a few imgs by some people in the chat, so it could be.
[05:30] <Nikz> did we get anything else in that case?

The runes from Liber Primus page 5 and 6 have been encoded in both unicode and their alphabetical representation. They can be found here. Another more peer reviewed unicode-only version can be found here.

Maybe the same Server? Would make sense from cicadas view
