But at least for me, I will still try to post all directions, links and instructions on how to solve the next steps in this wiki.

Not by giving exact solutions, but by trying to help you all learn how to solve this. Although I think even I will get lost along the way at some point. Setting up apache and onion hidden services or any other HTTP/WWW/TCP/IP/CGI (Common Gateway Interface) server related stuff just isn't my department. Nor is fucking with problems of various linux distributions. But you should have enough easy to follow tutorials in the article below. Many links, much script kiddies, WOW!

Wikia Page 7 is still a cluster fuck, but less so than it was! It will get better eventually. I hope it is more readable than the IRC logs.

Check logs, titanpads and TL DR article for now, everything else is still experimental. But most Headers are set in order and path from onion 5v2 to onion 6 shoud be clear.

If you decide to edit, dont delete stuff but rather make new Header and make it so good we can later move bad ones.

I dont want discourage anyone to share knowledge and information. Sharing is what brought us here. Just make sure you dont get caught. Dont forget: over Tor and on IRC you can be anonymous. If you follow basic OPSEC nobody can connect your IRC nick (dont use same nick, use cloaks or Tor on freenode, turn CTCP off, careful with your browser fingerprint..) to your onion hidden service.

Freenode ddos'ed

freenode was ddos'ed on 2/2/2014

  1. freenode channel summary log of early stages of the ddos https://infotomb.com/zzaut

Is there some "French group" ahead of #cicadasolvers?

Original /x/ thread: http://boards.4chan.org/x/res/14099148

Backup: http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/14099148/

Text packup: http://pastebin.com/dBD8aHry

On Jan 30th, people who appear to be native French speakers have been bragging on 4chan that they are ahead of #cicadasolvers on freenode, mocking us how we didn't even find the "portrait" and the "squares in mp3".

People in #cicadsolvers mainly disregarded them as trolls, not giving them much attention, but then on 31st, one day later, onion #5 came back up, and displayed a portrait of Andrés del Peral by the Spanish artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Outguessing that portrait led us to onion #6 with instructions to find three squares, which we needed to post to onion# 6 when it came back up.

Are there possibly other groups ahead of us? Was Cicada being honest when they mentioned "For those who have fallen behind."? Was wind only lucky when she said that there are other groups and that they are ahead of us? Who are those French guys? Is is Cicada mocking us? Do other groups besides Facebook and G+ exist? Does wind speaks French? Was it just Borken? What does being "Rocked too close to the Wall" actually mean?

Note from a frenchfag: "you're rocked to close to wall" is the literal translation of "bercé trop près du mur" a French expression that just means "you're a retard".

I dont even cat

Note that a group, that is capable of finding what we missed and maintaining enough opsec to not be public should be aware enough to stay unfound by Google search crawlers. It seems unlikely that they would risk their security by bragging about their endeavors on 4chan. How they had knowledge about "portrait" and  "squares" two days before that was posted on onion #5 is still unknown, but I think you can figure it out.

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Other interesting 4chan threads:

Dont forget that whole cicada 3301 thing in 2012 started on 4chan. And as it seems 3301 sometimes use this channel to troll us or to provide possible hints. Thats why monitoring and maintaining all 4hcan threads can be important.

/x/  great post from 5th feb (Übermensch)

You are both close, but missing it. Cicada isn't a cult. It isn't a government,
it isn't banks. It isn't all of Satoshi Nakamoto. (although members are undoubtedly
involved in each of these areas).
Cicada is fundamentally about evolution of man. About taking us to the next step.
Not the next biological step (although that's part of it too). It's more than that.
It's about man overcoming humanity. Digging deep inside to find infinity.
Realizing all out limitations, weakness, and suffering are our own creations.
We live in a Matrix-like world and they're here to pull out the few who see past
it, and then guide them further down the path. Except our matrix isn't a computer
program built by machines. Our matrix is the belief that we even exist in the first
place. Our egos built our matrixes. But we can't see it because our egos have
convinced us that they ARE us.
The Cicada revolution occurs on every level: physical, subconscious, emotional,
mental, social, technical, and on.
Those who find their way to the enlightenment offered are those who will change
the world of, not just tomorrow, but the world of today.

/x/ from feb 4th 2014 (cyperphunks,  Mabinogion, cDc...):

/b/ from feb 3rd 2014 (nothing special in it)

/x/ feb 2nd 2014 (more french trolls?)

Note from a frenchfag: the last three messages have not been written by french peoples but by morons using a translator (for example: "N'ont-ils pas encore déchiffré les ficelles?" should have been translated as "N'ont-ils pas encore déchiffré les chaînes de charactères ?", plus most frenches would have written "Ils ont pas" and not "N'ont-ils pas").

As for "Le groupe français n'existe pas. Nous sommes totalement morts.", that's just an observation: there is no active group in France, all the crytpo/hacking/cracking have been dead for the last 10 years.  That doesn't mean that there isn't a group ahead of us but I'm pretty sure that it isn't french (one of their member could be though).

Thx, I suspected its someone impersonating "french" group.

Portrait of Andrés del Peral - Francisco de Goya y Lucientes

Onion5portrait

source: https://infotomb.com/ppb2o, brotherbox

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns.

Andrés del Peral worked as a craftsman-painter and gilder at the court of Madrid from the late 1770s to the early 1820s. He is the man of the same name who is recorded as having formed a large collection of small paintings by Goya.

The original painting can be found in Room 39 of the National Gallery in London (reference NG1591 - which is prime): http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/francisco-de-goya-don-andres-del-peral

In he top right hand corner is what looks like a super-imposed silhouette that we believe to be Rasputin .

This might be rasputin source: (Needs to be checked in PS)

[18:24] <Valkyrie> http://prntscr.com/2o9mt6  it think its safe to say the had i cut off, there are many straight lines on the beard.

I tried to recreate same efect in Photoshop with no success. I guess this was not done in Photoshop, I didn't get same the effect with any common layer blend modes. The head is alot more visible in different colors than the body. So I assume the head was selected with the polygonal lasso and applied with a different filter than the body.

Kurt Goedel

Kurt Gödel

First jpg was : [17:50] <mourn> 1 image was Bew(y) = exists x (goedel)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_G%C3%B6del

Kurt Friedrich Gödel (April 28, 1906 – January 14, 1978) was an Austrian/Czech , and later American, logician, mathematician, and philosopher. Considered with Aristotle and Gottlob Frege to be one of the most significant logicians in history, Gödel made an immense impact upon scientific and philosophical thinking in the 20th century.

Picture of M.C.Escher: 1946 Eye (of death)

Eye 1946 by M.C. Escher, Mezzotint and drypoint, shows his own eye, which was greatly magnified by a convex shaving mirror. The center of his pupil reflects a skull. He is teasing us with the one who watches over all of us, the fate of each of us, death.

EscherReflecting

Escher by a convex shaving mirror, magnifying his own eye.

What is the meaning of the skull in Escher's eye

Escher's skull in the eye reminds us of mortality. He is teasing us by reflecting his version of "Death" back at us from the pupil of his eye. His "Death" is the one who watches over us all, the fate of each of us. In Escher's narrative there is no great expanse of life for us at all, just the small time that we have, constantly being watched by "Death", just drawing nearer to the inevitable conclusion of our destinies. In fact, Escher is an "illusion" artist, so the picture is therefore an illusion - As one looks into the eye, one sees right through to their skull, which is obviously impossible thereby creating the illusion.

I believe the eye photo may be a hint towards the hidden numbers and Rasputin images on onion 6.

Gematria values of related words:

SEE = 53+67+67 = 187 = 1+8+7 = 16 = 1+6 = 7

SEEK = 53+67+67+13 = 200 = 2^3 x 5^2. The sum of the distinct prime factors = 7

EYE = 67+103+67 = 237. If 237 is base 60, then in base 10 = 7387. 7+3+8+7 = 25 = 2+5 = 7

Short mp3, Trio Sonata in G major by J.S. Bach:

<mourn> mp3 is sonata in G major by J.S. Bbach

Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach

The song is: Trio Sonata in G major, BWV 1039 (1039 is a prime) by J.S. Bach. Here is the official imslp with score and more information: http://imslp.org/wiki/Trio_Sonata_in_G_major,_BWV_1039_(Bach,_Johann_Sebastian)

The 3 seconds worth that they sent is from bar 18 after the middle of the bar. Here is a screenshot of just that section played from the mp3:

McLEj0T

2nd half of Bar 18 from Bach's Trio Sonata in G major, BWV 1039

I re transcribed it in finale to make sure I had the correct section and notes that synced up with the mp3. You can find my midi, and the transcription here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jpqwmteihyrrshp/nSksuROnvE

I then wrote down the letters corresponding to their position and their part:

http://pastebin.com/3T089HUW Finally here is a few ways these letters could be turned into numbers:

http://pastebin.com/17h9MhyK

Some say that it is BWV 1033, that was a bit controversial

borken: also, one of the magic squares IS in the mp3 though,
it's encoded the same way Bach encoded his.

Note that in 2013 cicadas "Psychology test" one of possible answers was "strange loop", which is not very common possibility at standard psych a,b,c,d type of tests.  We discovered that "strange loop" most probably references Hofstadter already in 2013.

Book code solution:

<onecool> the letters (on left) in the outguess correspond to parables

The numbers are dialogue line, word, letter.

 1. The lettercodes in the beginning correspond with chapters in the book
    (e. g. LML == Little Harmonic Labyrinth)
 2. All chapters mentioned are dialogues between characters.

So we interpret the book code as follows:

The only resonable explanation we have so far is that for some reason, Cicada 3301 used -p 100 parameter while outguessing images. Even jhead estimates 75% for 1-3 and 100% for jpg4. Imagemagick also guesses 100% for page 4. And in gif you can see that jpg quallity looks very high.

Why cicada suddenly decided to change -p setting? We dont know, but we have been playing with that just one day before: Outguess detection visual analysis.

There is a difference between the outguesses: The digits used as frame for the
square change. Cicada used '3' in onion6.outguess00.dat and
onion6.outguess01.dat, '0' in onion6.outguess02.dat and '1' in
onion6.outguess03.dat. The digits spell out 3301.

[05:28am] brotherBox: ext, I extracted and outguessed it.

[05:41am] onecool: Bach: Trio Sonata in G Major, BWV 1039: I. Adagio
[05:41am] brotherBox: The infotomb is itdentical to the original one, just to have that off the list.

pcman3301: Yes Trio Sonata #2. Book will be GEB (by DH). I don't have my copy to hand.

[05:46am]

onecool: and the equation image

[05:46am] PersonalKilljoy: i got single bzip2 archive
[05:46am] brotherBox: ^
[05:46am] ext: silence_: it is bzip compressed
[05:46am] PersonalKilljoy: which is damaged........

Lurkers Log Dumps:

from #cicadasolvers

[12:18] <NiceLurk> squares are in 256, just saying
[12:18] <NiceLurk> and guy on 4can was not just troll
[12:18] <SheCalledMePaul> this year sucks, i wasnt even around for last year, but reading about it was better than this year =p
[12:18] <iII> which one lurk?
[12:18] <ss23> I'm really disapointed there were no physical locations this year
[12:18] <ss23> :(
[12:18] <NiceLurk> also he was not cicada, just guy who saw glimpse of solution before we did

my PM with iII

[08:41] <iII> are you going to try it this time?
[12:19] <NiceLurk> not sure, much other things to work on
[12:19] <NiceLurk> borken, he said that on /x/ he tried to tell us *again* that 256 can be squares
[12:19] <iII> he said the same here (in #cicadasolvers on 31th Jan), that it was the 256's
[12:19] <iII> but, he never made it work
[12:19] <iII> he talked about it weeks ago
[12:19] <NiceLurk> i havent read the titanpads yet
[12:19] <NiceLurk> so i dont know what going on
[12:23] <NiceLurk> funny thing is that massos detective noce actually worked 100%, /x/ trol wass borken
[12:23] <NiceLurk> >mfw masso can dox you if you only post troll post on /x/
[12:25] <iII> but he contradicts himself, he says look for three squares in mp3
[12:25] <iII> and says they're the 256's
[12:26] <NiceLurk> yeah typical borken
[12:26] <NiceLurk> i think they are not in mp3
[12:27] <NiceLurk> sage never tells you the easy answer, he tries to show you the way
[12:27] <NiceLurk> like that teacher in koan
[12:27] <NiceLurk> and as i understood him, squares in mp3 are distraction
[12:27] <NiceLurk> and there are some squares in 256... but i dont know, until now i though 256 look completely random
[12:28] <NiceLurk> i need to read titanpads to make bigger picture
[12:28] <iII> they're the right length to be squares
[12:28] <iII> but I imagine xor'd with something
[12:28] <iII> but, we've xord so many thigns
[12:28] <iII> lol
[12:28] <NiceLurk> also i have no clue where and how sage spotted squares in 256s, iirc he said that with /x/ troll he wanted to point squares to us *again*
[12:29] <NiceLurk> i dont recall him talking about them before
[12:29] <iII> it was in #hackers (if you are redaing that and dont know about channel #haackers look at spiers log page :-) )
[12:29] <NiceLurk> i missed that then
[12:29] <iII> he showed up having not really followed it, said hey, they can be the right length for squares
[12:29] <iII> then an hour later said he couldn't get them to make any sense
[12:29] <iII> nothing since
[12:29] <NiceLurk> uh well, i hate when this is happening, dont have time for this
[12:30] <iII> it should be a dead period now though
[12:30] <iII> remember how long the server section went on last year?
[12:30] <NiceLurk> i like when cicada is slow, so there is plenty of time to edit wiki and investigate other stuff, i just started to enjoy disecting outguess
[12:30] <iII> now that it's at the end of the public stuff, you may as well let the wiki sit for a bit
[12:31] <iII> there won't be new info, so it can wait, no?
[12:31] <NiceLurk> "When this hidden service returns and can accept input, post the
[12:31] <NiceLurk> three magic squares and the URL to your Tor hidden service here."
[12:31] <NiceLurk> thats onion 6 right?
[12:31] <iII> that's the outguess of the last set of jpgs we got
[12:31] <iII> a jpg that split in to 4
[12:32] <NiceLurk> and no date, just when it returns, you have to catch those 15 minute time window?
[12:32] <iII> all the outguess is almost identical
[12:32] <iII> haha
[12:32] <iII> yep, no warning
[12:32] <NiceLurk> and now i have to install ubunto on one of my computers... :-(
[12:32] <NiceLurk> i dont know if i will be bale to install apache on my chakra linux box
[12:33] <iII> I don't know, I did it without apache
[12:33] <NiceLurk> i spend 3 hours the other day just to install firefox in that freakin thing
[12:33] <iII> I just have a python script sending to port
[12:33] <NiceLurk> python? :-)
[12:33] <NiceLurk> can i do that in windows?
[12:33] <iII> I think so, yeah
[12:33] <iII> almost certainly
[12:33] <iII> look up python cgi, I found tonnes on it
[12:34] -*- NiceLurk can set up insecure onion only ba finding reterded step by step instructions :-/
[12:34] <iII> thankfully, those exist
[12:35] <NiceLurk> http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7929848/how-to-run-python-cgi-script
[12:35] <NiceLurk> yeah those exist but mainyl for ubuntu
[12:35] <NiceLurk> and i am not gonna bother with that atm
[12:36] <NiceLurk> although i should have some old box with ubunto installed.. i just need to patch it back with ram ships and graphics card... which will cause drvier problems :-(
[12:37] <NiceLurk> anyways some other day, i have some other shit to do today and tomorrow, ill just copypaste titanpads in wiki, so people will stop PMing me
[12:38] <iII> haha
[12:38] <iII> yeah
[12:41] <NiceLurk> hey
[12:41] <NiceLurk> http://anonmgur.com/up/a73af83c0ade8814cfba0fa3085bb197.png
[12:41] <NiceLurk> this picvture
[12:41] <NiceLurk> picture
[12:42] <NiceLurk> that face in upper right corner
[12:42] <iII> yeah
[12:42] <iII> people say it's rasputin
[12:42] <iII> it's another step we mostly skipped over
[12:42] <iII> the outguess from it just handed us stuff again
[12:42] <NiceLurk> isnt that that rusisan author who was kind of rusisan version of cassanova
[12:43] <NiceLurk> rasputin yes
[12:43] <NiceLurk> Rasputin jpg
[12:43] <iII> also, if you change the levels on that picture, if I recall, there's a cicada and a bunch of numbers in it
[12:43] <NiceLurk> nice, so more funtime in PS
[12:44] <iII> yep
[12:44] <NiceLurk> ill just skip fucking onion server, not my department anyways
[12:44] <iII> but, once again I don't know that it means anything
[12:44] <NiceLurk> enough other stuff that interest me more
[12:44] <iII> the onion server's w/e it's the squares that are going to fuck people this year
[12:45] <NiceLurk> seting up servers is just not my thing, time i spend chasing for some lame bug, that takes me 3 hours to solve (and it is usally some space begore %) just isnt worth it
[12:45] <iII> there's been a lot of that this year
[12:45] <NiceLurk> so you have to gnerate 3 magic ssquares or what?
[12:45] <iII> soul gave up entirely
[12:45] <iII> said it was too much time for no pay off
[12:46] <iII> brotherbox quit tonight too
[12:46] <NiceLurk> lel
[12:46] <NiceLurk> our elite squad i s leaving the borad

[12:47] <iII> 2 3's, a 0 and a 1

[12:48] <iII> that's the thing, cicada's never given us a magic square
[12:48] <iII> a magic square is supposed to start at 1 and go up one per entry
[12:48] <iII> and add up to something
[12:48] <iII> no repititions
[12:48] <iII> I talked to soul 3 days ago

[13:02] <parardhes> the hex had 4 runes inside and outguess gave the pgp signed message

More logs from #solvers about how the hell 4chan knew about squares and portrait one day before that was postedon onion 5 and onion 6

[14:40] <Forester155_> I'll try to participate in this one. Should be exciting. :D
[14:40] <NiceLurk> i am still trying to get page 7 on wikia in order
[14:41] <NiceLurk> help apreciated since i dont have mch time today
[14:41] <JustVisiting> NiceLurk! Shouldn't you be coding instead? :)
[14:41] <NiceLurk> i am not coder
[14:41] <NiceLurk> we are hivemind
[14:41] <JustVisiting> It doesn't matter, they want people who work alone.
[14:42] <JustVisiting> http://dump.sidvind.com/cicada_2014/8/ - what are pages 1-4 from here? THe ones from O5, or new ones?
[14:42] <NiceLurk> me coding is waste of time, things i would need 2 weeks some guys cando in 20 minutes
[14:42] <tim0k> so there is page 7 now
[14:42] <NiceLurk> i would leanr alsot, but i think my time is more valuable tryingto get more people up to date
[14:42] <JustVisiting> So no Cicada for me and you then, since neither of us codes?
[14:42] <tim0k> damn.. i wish cicada would be based in europe
[14:42] <tim0k> at least the timezones
[14:43] <Forester155_> I want to take a shot at this Tor bit, but I don't know if It's worth it. I'm at a university where there alot of smart people who could help me, but I don't know if I want to, it'd feel like cheating.
[14:43] <JustVisiting> tim0k, what page 7? I'm talking about pages 1-4 and confused about them and you overconfuse me with page 7???
[14:43] <NiceLurk> JustVisiting: they wanted ppl who work alone very year, but nobody reached final stage alone
[14:43] <Beato> idd tim0k
[14:43] <nbka> tim0k: I can really relate. You sleep 6 hours and you wake up to a shitload of information
[14:43] <tim0k> part7 http://uncovering-cicada.wikia.com/wiki/CICADA_3301_2014_PUZZLE_FACTS_PART_7
[14:43] <JustVisiting> 00:00UTC is a good time zone.
[14:43] <tim0k> it ain't my timezone JustVisiting
[14:43] <JustVisiting> Ah, part 7, not page 7. Or page 7 of wikia.
[14:43] <JustVisiting> Nor mine.
[14:43] <NiceLurk> all people who fifnished had some help from others, at debugging code, or hints about puzzle
[14:44] <JustVisiting> You`re UTC +1, huh tim0k?
[14:44] <ext> JustVisiting: [07:15:53] < ext> onion5 -> jpeg -> outguess -> bzip2 -> signed text -> 2 images, 1 mp3                                                                       @counterha~
[14:44] <NiceLurk> btw what should i be coding?
[14:44] <JustVisiting> THe server?
[14:44] <NiceLurk> did you figure out what squares cicada wants from us yet?
[14:44] <JustVisiting> Create one Tor hidden service that can accept CGI file uploads.
[14:44] <JustVisiting> When this hidden service returns and can accept input, post the
[14:44] <JustVisiting> three magic squares and the URL to your Tor hidden service here.
[14:44] <JustVisiting> Work alone.?
[14:44] <JustVisiting> No, i didn't. 4chan did apparently.
[14:44] <snooboo> hey NiceLurk
[14:44] <NiceLurk> no nned to code server until you have 3 sqares...
[14:44] <snooboo> i think you're awesome. keep up the great work
[14:44] <JustVisiting> tim0k, any idea what pages 1-4 are? http://dump.sidvind.com/cicada_2014/8/ from here?
[14:45] <NiceLurk> JustVisiting: 4chan talking about squares yesterday was borken
[14:45] <NiceLurk> he tried to remind us again that 256 might be squares
[14:45] <tim0k> JustVisiting: no idea, just saw them for the first time
[14:45] <NiceLurk> he mentioned it once two weeks ago but nobody took him srious
[14:45] <tim0k> no idea, yet
[14:45] <NiceLurk> and as it palyed out, looks like his hinch was correct
[14:46] <snooboo> they talked about the portrait and magic squares though? seems like they knew what was up
[14:46] <ext> JustVisiting: pg1-4 comes from onion 6, just the images concaternated
[14:46] <snooboo> like they were ahead
[14:46] <NiceLurk> but as far i know, he didnt solve it either

[14:47] <NiceLurk> but i sitll dont know how somebody was able to fing portarit before onion 5 was back up
[14:47] <Forester155_> I don't think it matters NiceLurk, once this next step occurs if nobody chooses to share whatever data they acquire than that's it.
[14:47] <snooboo> also, speaking french.

Artefacts on M. C. Escher  picture of Eye (of death)

[19:22] <NiceLurk> btw, why does this look like mpg compression?
[19:23] <NiceLurk> there are milions of better images of eschers eye online
[19:23] <NiceLurk> actually even if i try i cant find one so bad as this one
[19:24] <marcusw> NiceLurk: because mpg is motion jpg with is jpg except more trippy
[19:27] <masso> yeah, there is some kind of filter used in this pic. there are
actually more px than it seems. look how the single px blocks have
                a transition in it
[19:27] <masso> http://prntscr.com/2oaaiv
[19:30] <NiceLurk> yup
[19:30] <NiceLurk> [19:25] <mdzhb> it appears to be mosaiced
[19:30] <NiceLurk> what is it is hint for squares
Eyezoom500t

zoomed in 500%

Eyestestexperiment

Looks like this mosaic like structure is just jpg compression at very very low values.

It seems that image was exrememlly compressed with jpg ot make is as small as possible.

Escher and Gödel conection in google.

EscherGedel

Eschel Goedel connection?

Q: What connection between Escher and Gödel? Or is this only Googles magic?

A: GEB Book casues them both to be searched at same time often. Thats why Google recommends one if you search for another.

1/1/15 By visitor: They both relate to self-reference.
